Reverse Emulation on a Nintendo NES @nintendoamerica @tom7 @Raspberry_Pi #NES

What is Reverse Emulation? We have heard of Emulation – our computers, even a Raspberry Pi, can emulate many old computers and classic gaming devices.

Twitter user @tom7  (Tom Murphy VII) has done some excellent reverse engineering of the Nintendo original (1984) NES console and its game cartridges. It turns out that you can use another computer to inject your own code into a classic system. Tom shows us how in great detail, using two models of the Raspberry Pi, in two videos:

  1. Reverse emulating the NES to give it SUPER POWERS! discusses the hack
  2. Making of “Reverse emulating the NES…” goes into technical detail

He has some decent ideas on reverse emulation at the end of the second video. We’re impressed about it all!

Check out Tom’s videos and his website to see more of his work!  And thanks Tom for buying one of your Raspberry Pi boards from Adafruit!

And is you want to see the original NES robot R.O.B. hacked, see my previous post.

Do you think plugging in modern computers to classic hardware is cool? Post in the comments!
