The NYPL highlights women whose work and achievements put their mark on NYC and helped shape it into the unique city it is.

For Women’s History Month, we’re highlighting some of the women who have helped make New York City what it is. Just as the time they spent in the city shaped them, their work and achievements—in social justice, the arts, politics, philanthropy, and more—shaped the city in their own lifetimes and for the future. They solved problems, pushed culture, changed perceptions, and showed us the city through their lens.
