National Guard in D.C. will reportedly be armed beginning Sunday evening

A Defense Department official with knowledge of the planning told NBC News that National Guard troops in D.C. will be armed beginning Sunday. A majority of the troops will be carrying M17 pistols, their service-issued weapon, but, according to the official, some may be armed with M4 rifles. The authorized purpose and the rules of force are primarily for self-protection.
