Do You Get What You Pay for with Combination Wrenches?

In the latest Project Farm video, Todd tests a whopping 21 brands of combination wrenches. The box end of the wrenches were compared for performance on a rusty fastener with limited contact area and on 1/2″ low and high carbon steel with full box end contact. The open ends of the wrenches were compared for performance on a low carbon steel fastener as well as on high carbon steel.

The results show that price isn’t necessarily a determinant for performance. Mac Tools, at $22 at time of testing, did best, but lesser-priced brands like Gear Wrench (at $14, at time of testing) also did well. Other higher priced brands, like Sunex ($21) and Gedore ($19), did not fare so well.

Oh, and as you might imagine, the $1 Harbor Freight “Pittsburgh” wrench is crap.
