Making a Kumiko Pattern Out of Nails

Kumiko is an ancient Japanese woodworking technique of making intricate wood panels with geometric patterns using no nails (only grooves, mortise, and pressure).

In this Pask Makes video, he creates a panel by cutting nails to size and welding them together in a Kumiko-like pattern.

The patience it would take to do something like this makes me dizzy. But the results are undeniably lovely.

And, there’s a great tip in here. When cutting/nipping bits of metal or other material that might fly away, line up your cut and then cover the workpiece with a towel before doing the cutting. This will prevent the waste pieces from flying all over your work area.
