micro:bit or CLUE Connector – Sunken Right Angle Type: If you want to do more with the BBC micro:bit, getting those pins from the card-edge connector is going to be your first hurdle. Unlike many dev-boards, the micro:bit isn’t breadboard-friendly. That makes the ‘bit durable and easy to manufacture but means you need a special connector.
This surface-mount edge connector is very slim and fully SMT, so it’s a breeze to automate. It also only has contacts on one side, just like the ‘bit, so you save money by only paying for the contacts you’re going to use.
Keyboard FeatherWing – QWERTY Keyboard + 2.6″ LCD: From the folks at Solder Party comes the Keyboard FeatherWing, an easy way to add a handheld QWERTY keyboard and a 2.6” color display (+ more) to your project! Nice hand-held size and great for typing with your thumbs, early 2000s-style.
The keyboard itself does not contain an MCU/CPU/SoC that you can program; you will need a board compatible with the Adafruit Feather Ecosystem. Once you plug it into the back, you have access to a mini ‘BlackBerry’-like display that you can use to create a nifty portable device.
PoE Splitter with USB Type C – 5V 2A – 100 MB Ethernet: Power over Ethernet (PoE) splitters can make your project wiring a breeze – and best of all they work to connect any 802.3af-capable router to any Ethernet device, even if it doesn’t natively support PoE! The splitter takes a unified PoE signal (data and power) from one RJ-45 cable, and then separates the data (Ethernet) and power (5 VDC regulated) into two different lines for non-PoE devices.
This is an economical, practical, high-performance, and reliable Isolated 5V 2A PoE Splitter with USB C Plug based on IEEE 802.3af standard. It can divide power and data signals from a network cable and can be used with any PoE injector that is compatible with IEEE 802.3af, and supply power and data for non-PoE network equipment.
Whew, that’s quite a few words – but basically: Connect this to your PoE switch or hub, then on the other side of the Ethernet cable, you’ll get Ethernet and a high-quality 5V power supply, up to 2 Amps.
Adafruit 2.13″ HD Tri-Color eInk / ePaper Display FeatherWing – – 250×122 RW Panel with SSD1680: Easy e-paper comes to your Feather, with this breakout that’s designed to make it a breeze to add a tri-color eInk display. Chances are you’ve seen one of those new-fangled ‘e-readers’ like the Kindle or Nook. They have gigantic electronic paper ‘static’ displays – that means the image stays on the display even when power is completely disconnected. The image is also high contrast and very daylight readable. It really does look just like printed paper!
Adafruit SGP40 Air Quality Sensor Breakout – VOC Index – STEMMA QT / Qwiic: *sniff* *sniff* … do you smell that? No need to stick your nose into a carton of milk anymore, you can build a digital nose with the SGP40 Multi-Pixel Gas Sensor, a fully integrated MOX gas sensor. This is a very fine air quality sensor from the sensor experts at Sensirion, with I2C interfacing so you don’t have to manage the heater and analog reading of a MOX sensor. It combines multiple metal-oxide sensing and heating elements on one chip to provide more detailed air quality signals.
The SGP40 has a ‘standard’ hot-plate MOX sensor, as well as a small microcontroller that controls power to the plate, reads the analog voltage and provides an I2C interface to read from. Unlike the CCS811, this sensor does not require I2C clock stretching. We currently have an Arduino library with examples of reading the raw value and also running the Sensirion algorithm to calculate VOC index but do not have Python support (the Sensirion library is in C and requires a port)
