On November 15, 1867 the first stock ticker was debuted. Invented by Edward Calahan, the ticker revolutionized the stock market. History explains.
The last mechanical stock ticker debuted in 1960 and was eventually replaced by computerized tickers with electronic displays. A ticker shows a stock’s symbol, how many shares have traded that day and the price per share. It also tells how much the price has changed from the previous day’s closing price and whether it’s an up or down change. A common misconception is that there is one ticker used by everyone. In fact, private data companies run a variety of tickers; each provides information about a select mix of stocks.
In the Adafruit Arduino Lesson 10, Pseudo-Theramin, an Arduino Uno is combined with a light-sensitive cadmium sulfide (CdS) photocell to make a light responsive music machine. This project allows you do do the same with an Adafruit Trinket or Gemma mini-microcontroller. This project costs less and works in smaller circuits or wearable projects.
Changes in light intensity on the photocell will change the pitch of a note on the piezo speaker as you wave your hand in front of the cell. While not a true theramin (which uses changes in a circuit’s reactance), this project is much simpler to build.

The ESP32 is designed to complement the Raspberry Pi, not replace it. That said, deploying several ESP32 boards will still be economical when you need multiple devices compared to a host of Pi models. Also, you won’t need to purchase microSD cards for it. While Pi shines as a full-fledged single-board computer, it’s best harnessed for complex projects.
However, when you need a board to communicate directly with hardware and deliver real-time performance, the ESP32 is the solution. It is best suited for tackling efficient, time-sensitive, and precise controls for IoT builds and automations.
The ESP32-S2 Feather TFT Web Server can provide a web page to be shared over a local WiFi network or even ad hoc if no network is present. You can serve up the preserved Wordle or any other page you like.
