If you live anywhere near New York City, you may well have journeyed to the New York Botanical Garden for their Holiday Train Show. As much of a New York Christmas tradition as the tree at Rockefeller Center and the Nutcracker at Lincoln Center, the Holiday Train Show features over 25 model trains chugging along a half-mile of track. The trains roll past more than 200 scaled models of New York landmarks, including the Brooklyn Bridge and Yankee Stadium. Speaking from experience, we can tell you that the trip to the Bronx for the train show is well worth it.
Benn Jordan would likely agree. He’s made a short video on sound generators and synthesizers from the 1960s that “delivered audio signals on the line used to propel electric trains.” In other words, the tools allow model train enthusiasts to make their model trains sound like real-life trains. Jordan repurposes these gadgets to turn toy trains into full on synthesized music generators. Here’s more from Benn Jordan!
