Here’s something that I’ve never thought of — waterproofing old bed sheets to create waterproof tarps.
You might wonder if it’s worth the effort, but the process basically involves soaking the sheets in naphtha and silicone chalking and then hanging them out to dry.
The real eye-opener in this video comes at the end when Ben shows you how to make an ancient button out of a pebble. No, really.

At film schools across the world, there are nights, probably early on in the school year, when cries of “AKIRA!” and TETSUO!” And on those nights, everyone who had been initiated into the cult of Akira would nod sagely. Everyone who hasn’t seen Akira would, of course, be rightfully annoyed. Akira was the crossover hit that brought the world of Japanese animated films to the United States. And on July 14th, the Spoke Art gallery in San Francisco will hold SUGO! A TRIBUTE TO JAPANESE ANIMATION. Here’s more from JUXTAPOZ:
Featuring over sixty works of art from artists around the world, this exhibition is a testament to the influence and reach that the genre has had on generations of pop culture fans far and wide. This exhibition includes paintings, sculptures, illustrations and limited edition prints; offering one-of-a- kind works of art.
With adept storytelling and iconic characters, anime has transcended into a global phenomenon from what was once a very niche community. Like many forms of animation and entertainment, anime itself has grown up alongside its fans and over the past several decades has matured and evolved into a serious art form worthy of accolades, awards and cultural and societal acknowledgment.

The answer is… sort of? The issue, obviously, is that super caps are designed for quick charging/discharging, not long range applications.
But in this fascinating and informative video, Tom Stanton scratch-builds an electric bike motor and a power bank of 8 400 farad super caps (supplying 11881 Joules). That sounds like a lot, but as you’ll see in the video, not when it comes to powering a bike.
But things start to look more promising when he connects his power bank to another e-bike with regenerative braking which allows the caps to recharge while cycling.
This was only meant to be an experiment, not an attempt at building a truly usable e-bike, but further experimentation to see how far this concept could go might be interesting.

Well-known YouTube maker, Anne of All Trades, has been on an intense journey over the past 2-1/2 years to build a maker school on her new farm in Tennessee. What was supposed to be a 6-8 month project has stretched into years, with COVID, materials shortages, permit issues, and more.
But as Anne reveals in this heartfelt video, there was a deeper issue at work here, something that goes to the very root of her being — her intense desire to be self-reliant and her shame in admitting failure and asking others for help.
In finally admitting all this, Anne was able to face it and to ask for help. In doing so, people have literally shown up from all over the world to help her. Sometimes, the biggest hurdle we face is finding the courage to simply ask for help.
But she still faces permit challenges which could stop this dream project in its tracks. Stay tuned to see what happens next.

So, will we be seeing laser-powered coffee machines hit the shelves soon? No, unfortunately; the study is still being tested in labs and isn’t ready for consumption yet. However, at the rate things are going, laser-brewed coffee could be beaming onto our coffee tables sometime soon.

According to the grant application, the simulations will help put the artificial intelligence to the test in situations that feature cascading faileres in emergency situations such as a sudden storm that knocks out a drone’s sensor or cameras.
The project aims to create a testing environment that can certify that algorithms used in autonomous drone flight are safe to use in the national airspace. It also will develop tools to validate the algorithms used in autonomous flight for prognostics, vehicle health, sensor fusion, decision-making and cooperative planning.

These 2.54mm / 0.1″ pitch headers are particularly cute and tiny and are designed to match perfectly with the Pico and our short socket headers. Note that you could use normal header with those sockets headers, but these are short and don’t need clipping. Great for when you want a super-slim easy-to-plug kit of Pico + hardware.
Stacking Headers for Raspberry Pi Pico – 2 x 20 Pin: What do they do? They stack. Put the headers through your Pico and then you can not only plug them into a solderless breadboard or perma-proto, but you could attach circuitry on top as well. If you want the Pico up top for access to the boot button, you can put these headers through some add-on circuitry like a PiCowbell so that the boards can still plug into to a breadboard.
Short Socket Headers for Raspberry Pi Pico – 2 x 20 pin Female: These headers are particularly cute and tiny with a body height of just 5.0 mm they are the best way to minimize the amount of space your Pico project takes up, but still maintain that flexible configuration. “Normal” socket headers have an 8.5mm body height so this saves you a whole 3.5mm (hey it adds up!)
Socket Headers for Raspberry Pi Pico – 2 x 20 pin Female Headers: Socket headers are like the duct tape of electronics. They’re great for connecting things, soldering to perf-boards, sockets for wires or break-away header, etc. These particular ones are designed to match up with boards that have two rows of 20 pins, so you can plug things in and out with ease.
Adafruit Metro Mini 328 V2 – Arduino-Compatible – 5V 16MHz – STEMMA QT / Qwiic: One of our star development boards is the Adafruit METRO Mini 328, an excellent lil fellow that lets you make your Arduino-based project tiny. Recently we had to redesign this board to move from the obsolete CP2104 to the available CP2102N and one thing led to another and before you know it we made a completely refreshed design: the Adafruit METRO Mini 328 V2.
