Pinecil TS100 Tip Holder by OrangeFlash81 Thingiverse

Shared by OrangeFlash81 on Thingiverse:

I had a few more tips than the remixed TS100 case had space for, so this is a handy little tip holder!

The OpenSCAD file works by loading and cutting up one part of the case.stl (grabbed from the remixed Thing) to extract its tip holder portion, and then duplicates this a few times.

This holds 3 tips by default, but if you want more, the OpenSCAD file should be easy to edit!

The tip holder from the case is a perfect fit, so you could probably mount this vertically if you wanted.

Every Thursday is #3dthursday here at Adafruit! The DIY 3D printing community has passion and dedication for making solid objects from digital models. Recently, we have noticed electronics projects integrated with 3D printed enclosures, brackets, and sculptures, so each Thursday we celebrate and highlight these bold pioneers!

Have you considered building a 3D project around an Arduino or other microcontroller? How about printing a bracket to mount your Raspberry Pi to the back of your HD monitor? And don’t forget the countless LED projects that are possible when you are modeling your projects in 3D!

Better E-ZPass holder for your highway speed pass.

Suction cups provide easy removal to move pass between cars or storage when not in use.

There is an updated version of this here that is better with high heat. It has an open back to reduce the surface that can warp in a very hot car.

It is a mini size universal container with a screw cap.
The size of the cap is matched to the commercially available PET bottle cap, so you can use any cap you like.

Three types are available: normal type, slit type (slit width 1 mm), and knurled type.
Please enjoy by combining!

The size is 30 mm in outer diameter / 23 mm in inner diameter.
It may be a mini silica gel case or a storage case for 608ZZ bearings (4 pieces).

There is certainly no guarantee this will even function correctly and or line up as I have still lots to learn when it comes to modeling.

From the mail bag!

I’ve been a fan and consumer of Adafruit since I first
started playing with the Arduino a couple of years ago. I’m a way old school
maker, from way before the term maker had been coined – think the Zilog Z80
era, when “wire wrapping” was a thing – and then did some work with the AVR
in the early aughts, but hadn’t done anything til about 2017 when my nephew
introduced me to the Arduino.

Long story short, I was always pleased with the Adafruit products I used,
and today I received the Trinket M0 I purchased and started playing around
with CircuitPython, referring to your tutorials, and then reading a tiny bit
about the company. I can’t really express how impressed I am. It’s just
astonishing how the whole electronic maker movement has progressed, and the
Trinket is an outstanding example of how to do it well and make making
accessible. You are awesome.

All the best,
Bob

Today we celebrate engineer Scarlin Hernandez. Hernandez is part of the Flight Operations Team for NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope mission at the Space Telescope Science Institute.

From UMCK Roo News:

Hernandez was born in the Dominican Republic in 1991, but her family moved to Brooklyn when she was just 4 years old. Her family didn’t have much, but her mother taught her to be a strong and independent woman. In 2009, Hernandez was awarded a full, four-year ride from the National Science Foundation to attend Capitol Technology University in Laurel, Maryland. While in school, she started a Society of Women Engineers (SWE) group at her university and served as secretary and later president. She also did an internship at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, where she worked on the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission. She completed her bachelor of science degree in computer engineering in 2013.

After graduation, NASA offered Hernandez a full-time position as mission planning lead and system engineer for the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission. In 2014, she joined the Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI)—part of the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy (AURA)—in Baltimore. Now a Spacecraft Engineer for JWST, Hernandez develops and tests code for the Deployment Control Subsystem. JWST is the most complicated space telescope ever designed and relies on multiple deployment events to get it ready for observations. Hernandez’s work testing command codes before launch is vital to the success of the mission.

raspberry_pi_Guide_Image.gif

This week my favorite new guide shows you how to make a rotary encoder animated gif player with a Raspberry Pi.

While there are plenty of animated gif players, none of them allow you to control the animated gifs like a slide show. This guide will show you how to build 2 different Animated Gif Players that allow you to control the speed and direction with a rotary encoder based on the hardware you have available. Build one yourself and join the Rotary Gif club!

Code is Optional with WipperSnapper

This week we officially launched a new platform for snapping together an internet-connected electronics project, without writing a single line of code. We call it WipperSnapper!

WipperSnapper is an interface for Adafruit IO, our incredibly easy-to-use IoT platform, designed to turn any WiFi-capable board into an IoT device without programming a single line of code.

Simply load the WipperSnapper firmware onto your board, add credentials, and plug it into power. Your board will automatically register itself with your Adafruit IO account.

From there, you can add components to your board such as buttons, switches, potentiometers, sensors, and more! Components are dynamically added to hardware so you can immediately start interacting, logging, and streaming the data your projects produce without writing code.

Get started with WipperSnapper on the Adafruit Learning System

Make your own animated flying toaster OLED jewelry!

The flying toaster screen saver from After Dark makes great inspiration for a retro project using 3d printing, and DIY electronics. In this project we’ll show you how to make very cute and adorable electronic jewelry.

You can get the parts to build this project from the shop on adafruit dot com. The adafruit pro trinket is a micro controller perfect for miniture projects and wearables. Combined with the lipoly backpack, you can power and recharge this circuit over micro USB.

They’ll work right out of the box, though the tech-adept can download different peepers to blink and dart about on its pair of full-color TFT video screens mounted to an eyeglass-shaped backing. $45, adafruit.com

A new guide in the Adafruit Learning System: Raspberry Pi Rotary Encoder Animated Gif Player. This new guide goes over how to build 2 different Rotary Encoded-controlled animated Gif Players.

In the first one, the Mini PiTFT Player, is an Animated Gif Player that is similar to the Gif Player in the PiTFT Python + Pillow Animated Gif Player guide and is in fact based on the animated Gif player from that guide. However, the code has been modified to be controlled by a rotary encode that can be connected easily by STEMMA QT.

In the second player, the PyGame Player, is a similar player that uses the Official Raspberry Pi 7″ Display and a Rotary Trinkey. This version uses PyGame…

A new guide in the Adafruit Learning System: Adafruit 2.9″ eInk Display Breakouts and FeatherWings. This new guide includes instructions for using the new 2.9″ Flexible eInk Displays.

Easy e-paper finally comes to microcontrollers with these breakouts, shields and friends that are designed to make it a breeze to add a monochrome, tri-color, or grayscale eInk display. Chances are you’ve seen one of those new-fangled ‘e-readers’ like the Kindle or Nook. They have gigantic electronic paper ‘static’ displays – that means the image stays on the display even when power is completely disconnected. The image is also high contrast and very daylight readable. It really does look just like printed paper!

Adafruit has liked these displays for a long time, but they were never designed for makers to use. Finally, we decided to make our own!

When I saw the “cat” printer in this Hackaday article, I simply had to have one for myself. The original poster made a library for Arduino, but I wanted to make a version that worked on CircuitPython instead.

Their new guide is now available on the Adafruit Learning system. In it, you’ll learn how to send custom black & white images to an inexpensive BLE-enabled thermal printer that also looks like a cute cat. Check it out!
