Adafruit Learning System Weekly Update: WipperSnapper Edition #AdafruitLearningSystem

This week on the Adafruit Learning System, we published five new guides! Learn how to use a BLE thermal “Cat” Printer with CircuitPython, create a Raspberry Pi rotary encoder animated gif player, learn about SD cards, and more!

Favorite New Guide

This week my favorite new guide shows you how to make a rotary encoder animated gif player with a Raspberry Pi.

While there are plenty of animated gif players, none of them allow you to control the animated gifs like a slide show. This guide will show you how to build 2 different Animated Gif Players that allow you to control the speed and direction with a rotary encoder based on the hardware you have available. Build one yourself and join the Rotary Gif club!

Code is Optional with WipperSnapper

This week we officially launched a new platform for snapping together an internet-connected electronics project, without writing a single line of code. We call it WipperSnapper!

WipperSnapper is an interface for Adafruit IO, our incredibly easy-to-use IoT platform, designed to turn any WiFi-capable board into an IoT device without programming a single line of code.

Simply load the WipperSnapper firmware onto your board, add credentials, and plug it into power. Your board will automatically register itself with your Adafruit IO account.

From there, you can add components to your board such as buttons, switches, potentiometers, sensors, and more! Components are dynamically added to hardware so you can immediately start interacting, logging, and streaming the data your projects produce without writing code.

ALS Deep Cut

With so many guides on the Adafruit Learning System, some amazing guides of years past get buried and lost. ALS Deep Cuts brings these guides back up to the surface. This week’s guide is from back in 2014.

Make your own animated flying toaster OLED jewelry!

The flying toaster screen saver from After Dark makes great inspiration for a retro project using 3d printing, and DIY electronics. In this project we’ll show you how to make very cute and adorable electronic jewelry.

You can get the parts to build this project from the shop on adafruit dot com. The adafruit pro trinket is a micro controller perfect for miniture projects and wearables. Combined with the lipoly backpack, you can power and recharge this circuit over micro USB.
