The New York Times tested out a new Thanksgiving recipe generator. It’s an interesting idea, Thanksgiving seems to be full of traditional recipes individualized by each family over generations. For every classic roast turkey, there are also piles of ‘greenstuff’ with unwritten steps (maybe involving jello?) or grandmas cranberry concoction.
Does AI have something to add to the table?
People have their limitations, though. They can’t read every mashed potato recipe on the internet before coming up with their own version. They can’t analyze thousands of techniques in search of the best way to make a pie crust.
Ultimately it sounds like traditions are safe for now. As the experimenters put it:
“We’re not out of a job,” Melissa Clark said. “I don’t feel anything eating this food,” Yewande Komolafe added.
Genevieve Ko summed it up best: “There is no soul behind it.”
