I very much enjoyed this video from Storied on YouTube. It’s always fascinating to see how food history and etymology intersects with other major historical events. For example, I didn’t realize that chilli peppers and black peppers are actually completely unrelated botanically. They only share the pepper name because Christopher Columbus tried to rebrand chilis when we was unable to find a black peppercorn source during his colonial voyages.
