Adafruit Learning System Weekly Update: New Year Edition

It has been a couple weeks since my last update, and there have been a lot of amazing new guides published to the Adafruit Learning System. Learn how to make MIDI stomping pads, learn how to make the above Pip-Boy 2040 wrist-mounted prop, build a neocontroller color grading input box, build an LED sculpture lamp, and so so so much more.

This week my favorite new guide shows you how to make a LED sculpture lamp

It’s a sculpture. It’s a lamp. It’s an LED Sculpture Lamp!
Inspired by the idea of a curved lamp using LED strips, I created this 3D printable design. Thanks to the adjustable power supply, it is dimmable. To build the full lamp, 3 meters of LEDs are required.

Controlling Your Computer with Sliders & Keyswitches

Another one of my favorite guides over the last couple weeks is from John Park. He shows us how to control your computer with sliders and keyswitches. In this example, he uses sliders to adjust the color grading of images in Adobe Lightroom.

Build this sliders-and-keyswitches input device to speed up your photo color grading workflow!

Adobe Lightroom Classic can be controlled via MIDI messages, giving you quick access to essential processing controls. It’s a snap to adjust fundamental photo developing parameters such as exposure, color temperature, contrast, and saturation with the handy sliders. Use the keys to swap photos, and pull up the crop and heal tools.

Or, use it for any MIDI-capable application or host device, such as synthesizers, mixers, and more.

Turn your Circuit Python into a USB password vault

Long, random passwords — such as eF@V3p%2R*qhw8 are great because they’re so secure when compared to easy ones such as Pencil or 12345, but can be difficult to remember and to type. Once you build this Circuit Playground Password Vault, you won’t need to remember or type them ever again! The Circuit Playground can act as USB keyboard, so it can be plugged into any computer and be used to enter password for you.

But what if the Password Vault should fall into the hands of an enemy or sibling? Not a problem! You’ll create a unique unlock sequence that must be keyed in to unlock the device, so your passwords stay secure.

Once you’ve built the Password Vault, you can store up to ten passwords and deploy them at the push of a button!
