The Trade-Offs of Plunge or Gouge Cutting with an Angle Grinder

Jason of Fireball Tool needed to do a lot of cutting on a project with his angle grinder. The problem was, he was going through (expensive) cutting discs at a rate of about every 5-6 cuts. That’s about $1 per cut!

He decided to try gouge cutting instead of plunging and found that he could get over 35 cuts from a disc instead of 5-6. Of course, it takes a lot longer to do multiple cut passes, so it simply becomes a time vs. money tradeoff. But, as someone in the comments points out, you have to also have to factor in changing out the discs every 5-6 cuts when plunge cutting.
