Adafruit Learning System Weekly Update: AdaBox Edition #AdafruitLearningSystem #AdaBox

This week on the Adafruit Learning System, we published seven new guides! I had a hard time picking my favorite guide this week. Learn how to make a 3D printed ratcatcher 2 controller device from the Suicide Squad movie, build a Deluxe 4×4 NeoPixel keypad, learn all about the new SCD-40 and SCD-41 sensors, and so much more!

Favorite New Guide

This weeks favorite new guide shows you how to machine custom keycaps from wood

In this guide you’ll learn how to CNC mill keycaps for mechanical key switches.

This part require a custom fixture in order to machine the internal and exterior geometry of the keycap.

You’ll need to use Fusion 360 to customize the tool paths and stock for your desktop CNC machine.

Incoming AdaBox!

Four wonderful times a year, Adafruit puts together a custom curated box of goodies and ships them to a limited number of lucky maker’s doors. Adafruit has already shipped nineteen AdaBoxes, and with each new AdaBox comes a whole bunch of awesome guides on the Adafruit Learning System.

For example, AdaBox 019 was a box filled with the MacroPad RP2040 Starter Kit, and AdaBox 018 came with an Adafruit FunHouse and a whole bunch of components that go along with it. With each of these new AdaBoxes, we also published a lot of guides to get you started with each new box. Head over to the AdaBox category to see all of the amazing guides made with components from past AdaBoxes.

Oh, and it isn’t too late to get AdaBox 020, which ships in about 3 weeks! Get yours here!

ALS Deep Cut

With so many guides on the Adafruit Learning System, some amazing guides of years past get buried and lost. ALS Deep Cuts brings these guides back up to the surface. This week’s guide is from back in 2017.

From one of our very early AdaBoxes, the Ruiz Brothers made one of my favorite projects on all of the Adafruit Learning System. Boomy The Boombox.

In AdaBox 004, it’s Boomy The Boombox. Now you can make Boomy into an actual enclosure with 3D printing! Boomy is a super cool boombox that likes good vibrations and enjoys beat boxing. Boomy loves playing music and likes to reminisce about 1980’s culture.

See the guide here.
